The Setting

Two squares,
minutes on foot.

Bolton Grove sits on a quiet residential stretch of Bolton Street, close enough to Union Square that most errands are a walk and far enough that the block keeps its own pace. The square itself has become one of the most talked-about corners of Greater Boston — a farmers market on Saturdays, a courtyard of small independent shops and kitchens at Bow Market, and a long roster of restaurants, bakeries, and bars that rarely need a reservation more than a few days out.

Cambridge Street runs the other way toward Inman Square, and it is the closer of the two — five minutes on foot, and arguably the better dinner. Puritan & Company and its oyster bar sit at one end, Urban Hearth and Oak Bistro at the other, with Moona, Casa Portugal, and Zuzu’s Petals in between. An Sibin and New Republik hold up the neighbourhood-pub end of things, 1369 Coffee House has been pouring since long before any of it was fashionable, and bōm dough handles the morning.

The same stretch carries the practical: Inman Pharmacy a few doors along, and past it CHA Cambridge Hospital and Spaulding Hospital Cambridge — close enough that a shift at either is a walk rather than a commute.

The Green Line arrived at Union Square in March 2022, and it changed the commute here. Lechmere and the Cambridge labs are a few minutes down the line, downtown Boston not much further. Kendall Square is a short bike ride, the Somerville Community Path runs toward Cambridge for anyone who would rather ride than sit in traffic, and McGrath Highway puts I-93 within easy reach when you are driving out of town.

Day to day, the rest is close too: Market Basket and Target for the big shop, Reliable Market for everything else, Lincoln Park a few blocks away with its playground, splash pad, and fields, and Prospect Hill Park up the rise, where the monument marks the hill that once looked out over the siege of Boston and still holds the best skyline view in the city.
